…oh, let me count the ways. Microsoft’s latest bit of douche-baggery is making headlines again. As part of their Scroogled campaign, (no, I won’t link to it) in which they criticize Google for their business practices; Microsoft has begun selling Scroogled themed T-shirts, hats and mugs. Ironically, these appear to be a big hit with Google employees! This coming from a company with a long and storied history of predatory and anti-competitive business dealings. So much so, that there is an entire Wikipedia page devoted specifically to “Criticism of Microsoft.”
“Mr. Pot…meet Mr. Kettle”
Look, I’m not going to pretend that Google is a perfect angel of a company. They deserve their fair share of criticism. The American business landscape is a battlefield in which good men die like dogs and only the ruthless survive — to wildly misquote H. S. Thompson. But Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign really has all the gravitas of a thirteen-year-old-girls-slap-fight. Could they be more juvenile?
Microsoft is a company in its death throws. That’s right, I said it. It’s early yet, to be sure, but mark my words; the end is nigh. Once the 400 pound gorilla of the tech world, now reduced to name-calling and finger-pointing, Microsoft is a company struggling to remain relevant in a world where the dominant operating system is Android. Plus, they have cooties.
