The Twitter #music service launched yesterday. You can reach it at: http://music.twitter.com
Twitter #music is a music discovery service that lets you listen to short snippets (about 30 sec.) of music from various artists. Twitter ranks the music in several categories like, most popular, emerging, now playing (which lets you see what your friends are listening to), and suggested music for you – which is based on music that you’ve tweeted about. Music for the service comes from iTunes, Spotify or Rdio. If you have a Spotify or Rdio account, you can login and listen to the full track. The #music service naturally makes it easy to tweet about whatever you’re listening to, or connect with others and explore what they’re listening to.
You can access the #music service via the web at the link above, there is also an iOS app and an Android app is coming soon.
Twitter #music seems like a pretty cool way to listen to and discover music. My only real objection is that that you need an Rdio or Spotify account to listen to full tracks. If you want a no hassle way to listen to full tracks, you should check out Pandora.
All in all, Twitter #music seems like a natural fit for Twitter and a good way for them to boost their bottom line.
